🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Traversal Techniques Become Widely Accessible This Season Respawn Entertainment has an exciting surprise prepared for the popular battle royale players, arriving just in time for festive season. Fans of this game's highly fluid traversal will be pleased to discover that a new movement mechanic is being implemented when Season 27: Amped launches on November 4th. Unveiling The Mantle Boost Dubbed "Momentum Boosting" by Respawn, this feature gives players a burst of forward momentum when scaling obstacles. According to lead battle royale designer Eric Canavese, Mantle Boosting was previously existed of the game for some time, often called as "ledge boosting." But it's challenging for casual gamers, and is mainly used by competitive players in competitive play or esports competitions. This season, the team simplifies the process for everyone to successfully perform these tricky movement boosts. "This technique have been in Apex for a while, but the movement isn't easy to perform and gamers would never know it [is in the game] without external guides," Canavese explains. "Now including a visual cue so users can clearly identify when and how to trigger the fast-paced movement ability, making accessible the feature and adding fresh strategies to compete for more players." The Reasoning Behind Opening Up Advanced Mechanics What's the reason for making a once niche movement quirk available to everyone? Principal designer Josh Mohan says developers aims for gamers to experience empowerment — including ones who are inexperienced. "[The playerbase] is doing other crazy stuff like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we looked around at other games, observed what the community execute, and we wondered, 'How can we extend these capabilities to more players?'" Mohan clarifies. "Because currently, certain techniques are kind of janky to use — you need to remap your keybinds and execute within precise timings. We proposed, 'What if we make a polished implementation?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Movement is primarily the name of the game in Season 27, with Legends Horizon, Rampart, and the aerial combatant all getting buffs to maintain them mobile. Recovery time on her tactical ability has been decreased, and the Gravity Lift will boost players into the air faster than before. Rampart's Amped Cover now include a roof and capability to provide movement bonuses to allies in range. But it's aerial this Legend who's getting the most attention this season, with various adjustments applied to make her stronger, quicker, and deadlier. "In my opinion there's quite a consensus that her moment is here," states Legend designer the designer. "Certainly that she's been top-tier previously, but due to the addition of other characters, movement[-based] passives, and Evac Towers, it felt like she's not very relevant in current the game. This presented a really great opportunity for the team to revisit multiple elements in her abilities and sort of restore her to her glory days." Valkyrie's Upgrades To reclaim Valkyrie's relevance in the game's meta, the developer says Respawn assessed all her skills and introduced some powerful modifications. Her jetpack received improvements, boosting her speed while airborne, and this equipment now recharge much quicker, enabling her to remain longer aloft. Now she won't be harmed from her own Missile Swarm, which has also been upgraded to tag opponents who are hit from it. Her squad redeploy ability — which launches her entire squad skyward for redeployment or retreat — now takes much less time to fire up. Additionally, she gains recently added Legend Upgrades that users can select to reduce fuel consumption, expand the spread of her rockets, or further speed up her Skyward Dive activation. "Her jet pack fulfills the pilot experience," he says. Map Changes Even the game's lone airborne map, Olympus, receives a movement-friendly overhaul, with major changes that expands choke points and renders securing elevated positions more manageable. The developers state Apex Legends Season 27 is all about giving players the resources required to compete in the competition. "Essentially, we examined Apex's fundamental nature as a fast-paced FPS," explains principal designer Josh Mohan. Apex Legends the Amped season launches November 4th at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
