Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Derogatory Chants About Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United only seven months following instigating insulting songs aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has signed a contract joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His lengthy time with Leeds finished through agreement this past summer.

One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds included starting abusive songs regarding Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the former England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club out of the bottom places.

Previous History Between the Striker and the Manager

Both men had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

Everything seems has been put behind them with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Challenges

The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
