Paceman Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Concerns.

'Major setback' for the English camp as Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.

The pace bowler increased England's injury problems when he left the ground early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left leg immediately following a delivery that he bowled during the morning session.

Team management reported the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The series decider in this Ashes battle at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.

England have previously lost strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was omitted of the third Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman among just a trio of England players to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he returned for the second day's play and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of his spell, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

The English bowler was brought back for the Boxing Day Test following his omission of the third.
